Design
The design of the Breville Grind Control Coffee is a little more complex than your simple coffee maker. This is only because it’s bigger and has many more features and functions than a normal coffee maker doesn’t have. Talking of the design, on the top of the Coffee maker, there is a bean hopper with a flat machine burr setup instead of an old conical burr. The flat machine burr is much better than the conical as it’s more precise and sharp, resulting in a better grind. When the hopper lid is closed, you will see a knob on the side of the hopper lid. This knob controls the fineness and coarseness of the grind and known as grind adjustment knob. On the side of the hopper is a brush placed that comes in handy when you need to clean your coffee maker.
On the front of the Coffee maker is the control panel. An LCD monitor shows various values like the amount of water in the tank, several cups of coffee you want to make, the strength of the coffee and time. On the left of the LCD Monitor is a start button, while on the right is an open button for opening the gold tune basket. On the lower side of the LCD, you will find an auto button to turn on the auto feature. It’s for early birds who want to program their machine to start grinding and brewing coffee at a certain time. A knob named Strength is there to set the coffee’s strength, meaning the amount of ground coffee down into the basket. A cup carafe knob to set the number of cups of coffee you want to make. The last one is the menu button that can change set time and other features of the LCD Monitor. The knobs not only work for strength and set several cups of coffee but also can be used to change the time or for calibration.
Between the hopper and LCD monitor, you will find a water reservoir that can accommodate around 12 cups. On the front, you will see a thermos carafe that’s made of double-wall stainless steel and can keep the coffee hot for a certain amount of time. Below the thermos carafe, you will find a removable drip tray to make the space in case you want to fill in a bigger cup.

LCD Screen
On the outside of the Breville BDC650BSS is an LCD screen. Having a few buttons, this is an excellent source of information. Being able to see all the information related to your coffee guarantees a delicious coffee to be brewed. Without knowing the water levels, the quality of the brewed coffee can be compromised and the machine’s health. For example, if a water level is too low for a long time, there are chances that it will break your machine motor.
Talking about the strength of the coffee, it makes sure that you get a coffee right to your wants. You can change the strength of the coffee with a single push of a button on the LCD screen. Also, you get to decide the beans grinding time and coffee brewing time.
Thermal Carafe
Everyone wants their coffee to be hot as long as possible when it’s brewed. After all, who wants to reheat their coffee from time to time. Buying Breville BDC650BSS will ensure that you don’t need to reheat your coffee because it comes with a thermal carafe. The 12 cup thermal carafe makes sure your coffee remains hot and fresh all the time.
It’s all possible by the thick insulation of the carafe. It’s thick enough to keep the coffee hot but not enough to make the thermos carafe heavy. This is a good thing because a heavy carafe isn’t good when you have to serve many people. So, this lightweight carafe keeps your coffee hot and fresh all the time.
Brew Time & Temperature
Breville Grind Control Coffee allows you to serve a single coffee cup and multi-up to 12 cups. It’s awkward if your coffee machine takes a lot of time while brewing a coffee. In the case of the Breville Grind Control Coffee machine, it brews a single cup in around 4 minutes, while a multi-cup can be ground in around 7-8 minutes. When it comes to the temperature of the coffee machines, most of them follow the standard temperature that’s optimal for brewing coffee. Breville Grind Control Coffee also follows the same temperature, around 195° to 205° F.
Brew Strength & Pre-Ground Coffee
The Breville BDC650BSS allows you to set the strength of the coffee. The strength of the coffee means the amount of ground coffee down into the basket. It allows around 8 coffee strength settings. You will be able to see the level of strength in the LCD Monitor. Rotating the strength dial will change the strength to your desired level. 1 is the weakest, and 8 is the strongest. The recommended setting is 4 to get a medium coffee strength.
Tuning to 1 will disable the grinder, and you will be able to use the pre-ground coffee. Add pre-ground coffee into the gold tone filter or paper filter and you are good to go.
Calibrate Function
This feature helps you compensate for the output time of the grind and the weight of the ground coffee beans. As you all know that different kinds of origin beans require different grinds. In this function, you will need to weigh ground beans after the grinder runs for around 10 seconds. To perform this function, you will require to set the size of the grind first. A finer grind is best for smaller cups, while for larger cup volume, a medium-coarse grind will be best. To do this,
- Set the grind size first
- Press the Menu/Exit button
- Rotate the Strength dial to calibrate
- Weigh the ground coffee
- Now Rotate the Strength dial to match the amount weighed
- Press the strength dial to accept
Now your grind output is calibrated to your beans type. This feature is very important because it allows to experiment different strength setting and grind size to get the optimal taste.
Performance
Performance is everything. All the glorious features and design will be nothing if performance is not to the expectations. Well, in the case of Breville BDC650BSS, you get stunning performance. It brews a delicious coffee at 190°F – 205°F temperature within around 7 to 8 minutes. The quality of the coffee is impressive. It offers everything that guarantees a delicious coffee.
